Hey, I'm a polite host. Not gonna invite someone over if there aren't uh, drinks in the fridge.

[ Or in the bathroom, in this case. He's opening the baggie of coke, tastes it with a thumb, rubbing it into the gum over his left fang. ]

This'll do fine. I've got some 'luudes we can feed her if this gets too...

[ He gestures, implying an experience he's pretty sure they both understand. For all he's a little baby in Lestat's world of blood and death, he's got years of experience with what modern drugs have to offer. He puts his glass of blood down, picks the book back up, and uses the sharp glass tip of his thumb to cut a square out of the cover to roll into a straw. ]

Besides, coke is great when there's someone interesting to talk to. And whatever else you are, Lestat, you're an interesting guy.

I mean, yeah.

[ Instant, and a little like he thinks Lestat is stupid for even asking. It's kind of like being in a room with a tiger, though, his gaze never leaving Lestat from the stripdown to the snorting, awe and terror. Both feelings that really work for him.

He doesn't explain until he's tapped a messy line onto the back of his hand, used his cardboard straw to really get it up there. A low whoop. It's good blow, instant tongue loosener.
]

Fifty years ago in Frisco you were all Louis could talk about, however he tried to play it. The whole interview, in Dubai, I'm tryna untangle the fucked up logic of you.

[ And now here Lestat is, glamorous in the way only an inevitable tragedy can be. Violently exciting, rarely honest. Who gives a shit about his documentary or the fucking book? Well, okay, he likes touring again, especially now that travel isn't debilitating his aged, sick body. The quiet book readings and the party bus interviews, both are good. But not what he's here for. ]

Plus, look at you.

[ See, that bitterness, that's more interesting than all that provocation. If Lestat didn't wanna be objectified, is Daniel's thought, he really picked the wrong career.

But there's no denying that he's compelled. Captivated. Not all that different from looking longways from the barstool and seeing Louis for the first time, insouciant magnetism, confident disaster. Black holes draw people in.
]

C'mon, siddown.

[ He smacks his lips, tongues over his numb gums for a second. ]

Or come here, whatever.

[ He's not quite bouncing in place, but the energy is there — thinking too much about Lestat's worst qualities, Louis, Armand, the book, it's all kinda washed out by the coke euphoria. There are three things good for filling this kind of bleak loneliness: they have the drugs, and if he plays rock'n'roll there might be a complaint to management, so that leaves the third to go. He's reaching out, one hand for Lestat's hip and the other for the scar, confident he'll be allowed to touch it. Lestat's too old for his skin to split easily so he doesn't go gentle, sharp nails indenting hard. ]

I got the impression you liked it rough.

[ One day Daniel won't immediately throw himself into the stupidest idea — didn't happen by seventy, but maybe seven hundred? His chin tips up, defiant, mouth a little crooked and unapologetic. He presses his claws in hard again, trying to draw a little pink to that golden-pale marble. Whether he gets pinned or punished or manages to draw blood, it's win:win:win. ]

[ Daniel snickers to himself at being chastised. ]

You want me to treat you like you're fragile, Lestat?

[ He makes the idea sound ludicrous — but he isn't trying to claw the shit out of Lestat's skin anymore, colliding interestedly into and upwards. Runs a mocking caresse over his collarbone. ]
